On our final day in Chiang Rai, we went to the Green Line Bus Station, bought our tickets to our next destination of Chiang Mai and were left with some time on our hands. We had not had breakfast yet, so we headed up the street in search of food and came across the Baan Chivit Mai Bakery.
Fantastic idea - a feel good eatery!
The Bakery: We did not know when we sat down on the outdoor patio, but upon reading the menu, discovered the eatery is a Foundation with 100% of the profits going to support disadvantaged children in the province of Chiang Rai – housing, medical and education. Fantastic idea – a feel good eatery! The atmosphere is living room relaxed.
The Service: Friendly and efficient. You have a menu to choose your food, but I also recommend going inside to look at the goodies on offer.

The Food: Simple food with fair prices. They offer coffees, teas, juices, smoothies, breakfast plates, sandwiches, pasta, burgers, and Thai dishes. We ordered a club sandwich as well as one with french fries so we could share. The fries were crispy as they should be; the multi-coloured ribbon sandwich was good.
The Cost: Baan ChivitA little pricier than most local cafes, but when you remember that all profits go to a great cause, it is worth paying the little extra. The stand alone sandwich was 120 baht / €3.15 / USD$3.65 , with fries 155 baht / €4 / USD$4.70. The delicious lemon smoothie we shared was 75 baht / €2 / USD$2.25.
