Cuddle into a nook with a book and enjoy a leisure German Champagne breakfast.
Restaurant Name: Café Tasso (website)
Address: Frankfurter Allee 11, 10247 Berlin
Note: This is an independent restaurant review based on my experience.
Passing time on a cool fall day on the oldest street in Berlin we came across the quaint Café Tasso, conveniently located by foot on the Frankfurter Allee. Out front was a huge selection of books for sale / donation, or simply for your reading pleasure while visiting the establishment.
We wandered into the warm, living room feel restaurant. To our left was a magnificent library offering all kinds of literature genres – fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, children books, etc. There is something so nurturing about cuddling up with a good book and a cup of brew. To the right was cozy seating of nooks, comfy chairs and tables with lots of cushions to complete the burgundy coloured charm.
The Restaurant: Café Tasso is certified organic, all food and drinks are 100% organic and all dishes are prepared in house. The fabulous creations are extremely well priced, proving healthy eating can be affordable. The menu, in both German and English, has a generous breakfast offering catering to which should leave no one hungry.
I wholeheartedly recommend this feel good philanthropic Café.
In addition to books and food, they also hold book readings, concerts and other cultural interests. Their philosophy is:
… affordable books for everyone (donation)
… that people with disabilities are integrated (SinnWerk)
… that organic is tasty and affordable (it is!)
… that cultural events are accessible to everyone (donation)
The Service: Self seating, but acknowledged upon entrance. A server was by our side in short order asking what we would like to drink. When we indicated we would like some time to read the menu, she left us, but kept a careful unobtrusive eye on us – the second the menu closed, she was back with a smile and some helpful suggestions.
The Food: We ended up ordering the Tasso for two with sparkling wine and what a delightful feast arrived at our table. A huge plate with German salami, ham, cow cheese varieties, goat cheese, hummus, tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, bananas, kiwi and butter. Three soft boiled eggs (cooked as per our request), honey and a basket with a variety of rolls, breads, and a croissant completed the breakfast.
The Cost: The Tasso for two cost €18.90, the one extra egg €1 for a total of €19.90. One should keep in mind, that everything served, right down to the honey, was organic.
I wholeheartedly recommend this feel good philanthropic Café.
