Pizza Grill Budkova, Bratislava Slovakia – Review

Visiting Bratislava, Slovakia?  Looking for a cheap place to eat in a jungle of high prices and mediocre food?  Here is my review of Pizza Grill Budkova.

Exhausted from our day of travel from Vienna Austria (blog), and some sightseeing in Bratislava (read my blog Bratislava, Slovakia – Dog Friendly European Road Trip), we were out walking our dog Fritz when we happened across Pizza Grill Budkova. Conveniently located within walking distance of our accommodation Penzion Vilo.

They warmly welcomed us and our dog and we found an empty table on the al fresco terrace.  The evening heat demanded? that we order a beer for my husband, and a radler – beer with lemonade – for me.  The radler was incredibly delicious as they made their own with beer and real lemonade – so refreshing, I suppose as it is meant to be!

Enjoying the atmosphere, we decided we would split a pizza.  Not just any pizza, in Italian tradition, the pizza Margherita was cooked in a wood fire oven.  Simple and delicious! ?  Cost for all: €8.40

Due to the fantastic pizza and friendly people, we decide to return to Pizza Grill Budkova the next evening for dinner.

This time we managed to consume
– 3 radler
– 1 Pizza with prosciutto and rucola
– 1 Pizza Hawaii
Total cost: €17.80

Once again, everything fabulous!  Not only is Grill Budkova dog friendly, which allows us to not only consume, but enjoy our time out, the food and the service is 5 star in a comfortable common people restaurant!

Win Win!!!

Do I recommend it?  YES!  Go, enjoy and let us know your experience in the comments section below.

Gasthaus zur Stadt Krems, Vienna Austria – Restaurant Review

Traditional Food in Wien, Vienna Austria – Dog Friendly

On our recent visit to Vienna, Austria, we went in search of traditional Austrian Kitchen which allows dogs.  Gasthaus zur Stadt Krems welcomed us with big smiles and friendliness.

They have an old fashioned dining area and a simple seating bar area with large wooden tables.  We chose to sit in the bar area, as we were dressed for walking and sightseeing, not for dining.

We each had the Schnitzel Weiner Art with potato salad and washed it down with 2 Gösser Radler (a wonderful beer lemonade mix).  The schnitzel was nice and crispy with a wonderful flavor.  The potato salad was delicious – good old fashioned style, creamy and slightly tangy.

Our total was €28.40 (Schnitzel €10.50 ea., Beer €3.70 ea.)

Do I recommend it?  Definitely.  Next time we will delve into more of the Viennese Cuisine!

Trattoria Portofino, Berlin – Italian Restaurant Review

Where to eat in Berlin? Review target: Italian restaurant Trattoria Portofino

Berlin has so many eating establishments – 4,650 – and counting! In this restaurant jungle, food flavor and quality are as extreme as the price ranges.  While we are generally on the search for small budget prices with a big taste, we often come across lower quality food.  How did Trattoria Portofino on Gubener Straße 48 fare?

Il Boccone d’Oro, Civitavecchia – Restaurant Review

Where to Eat in Civitavecchia, Italy

Civitavecchia (read about our experience), is a town around 82 km north west of Rome; it is the Port for Rome. 2017 will see cruise ships dock here a whopping 697 times (according to Crew-Center.com).  That can add up to a lot of people looking for a spot to eat.  Following is my review of one of the restaurants we dined in, Il Boccone d’Oro, which translates to The Golden Bite.

For dinner our first evening in town, we went to the Italian restaurant conveniently located in front of the Piazza Calamatta Square.  I really liked the atmosphere with the rounded ceilings, brick and mortar, simplified setting – just like how good Italian food is – simple.

We ordered the following:
– Bottle of red wine: Aglianico Campania 2015 – Mastroberardino
– Bottle of water
– Italian white Bread with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pink sea salt
– Spaghetti Carbonara
– Bucotini Amictriana

The medium bodied Aglianico Campania, with hints of cherries and strawberries was good, although with an abv. of 12.5% it was under our usual preference of around 14%.  However, it did pair well with my dish.

As is usual in most Italian restaurants, we were served a bread basket which was accompanied with bottles of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and pink sea salt.  It is incredible how amazing these flavors taste together.

My order of Bucotini Amictriana was incredibly delicious.  The perfectly al dente prepared spaghetti like pasta with a whole in the middle was topped with a rich tomato red sauce prepared with pork cheek, slightly spicy cheese and onion.  One bite of my husband’s Carbonara, which hails from Rome, mingled into a perfect creamy texture of eggs, bacon and cheese on top of spaghetti; also delicious.

We slowly enjoyed every morsel of our meals, all the while washing it down with the wine.  When all was gone, our waiter appeared with 2 Limoncello liqueurs as an after dinner digestivo.

Our bill came to a total of €38 – once again, expensive for Italy, but better than Rome ?  The relaxed, friendly atmosphere was nice and the food was very good – we would definitely go back.
