Gia Thanh Phu Quoc Guest House, Vietnam – Review

Phu Quoc island, Vietnam.  An independent motel review of Guest House Gia Thanh.

AccomodationGia Thanh Phu Quoc Guest House
Address:  6, 91 Trần Hưng Đạo, tt. Dương Đông, Tp. Phú Quốc, tỉnh Kiên Giang, Vietnam

Note:  This is an independent restaurant review based on my experience.

As there is no Uber on the island yet, we took a taxi costing 150,000 dong (approx. USD$6.50 / €5.50) from the airport to our family run hotel, Gia Thanh Phu Quoc Guest House located on the island of Phu Quoc, Vietnam.   Our drive took little more than 15 minutes for the 10 km drive.

Not a lot of English is spoken here (who cares?! Adventure!), but the young man who runs the place and owns the restaurant next door can communicate in English very well. The rest of the family always had big, friendly smiles and tried to understand and help.  Great people!

Gia Thanh is clean – well, spotless – and almost brand new.  Shoe removal is reminded at the front door where there is a pile of shoes!  It came to our attention that each night the shoes magically appeared inside lined up in a proper order for morning retrieval.

We were offered a breakfast option for $2.50 extra pp/day which was then included in our total bill above. Because we thought our accomodation was far from town, we took it and were glad we did. Read about the on property restaurant AceroLa.

Can’t say enough good about this family! They allow use of their personal kitchen if you wish to make something and there is a bbq free to use as well.  We bought a jackfruit at the market and they prepared us a wonderful smoothie- we left a generous tip for their kindness.  Can’t say enough good about this family! The rooms have tv with movie stations, a kettle, loose tea, bathroom and desk.

We rented a moped and had all the freedom to come and go as we pleased!

Breakdown:
Positive:
– airconditioning
– cable tv
– kettle (think noodles, free tea)
– Toiletries, Hairdryer, Slippers (flip flops)
– wifi
– private, big bathroom
– quiet, but close enough to everything
– on property restaurant
– spotlessly clean
– extremely friendly

Negative:
– we really do not consider this a negative, but because some people do, I must mention it – not on the beach.  The beach is an approximate 10 minute brisk walk.

Do I recommend it? Hell yes!  Not only was this a fabulous stay, but I believe it is possibly the best deal on the island.

Our cost: 5,200,000 dong (approx. USD$230 / €194) for 10 nights, including breakfast – that is a mere $23 per night – and I have seen it advertised for less!
